From the desk of Dan Ponchet
Here we are again beginning another growing season on Vancouver Island. As local farmers gear up and sow the crops into the ground, raise the livestock, care for the bee hives, and craft the wines and ciders. We hope you enjoy the 37th edition of the Island Farm Fresh Guide.
Since publishing our first guide in 1987, we’ve kept our mission simple and clear. We are here to connect locals and travelers alike to the farmers of Southern Vancouver Island. We do this because there is nothing better than buying straight from the farmer!
Our members continue to work hard to bring you all the fresh produce, value-added products, high-quality meats, sensational wines and ciders, and other meal accompaniments you know and love – with new products in the works all the time. We are always adding new members, so please check them out and give them a try too!
As farmers, many of us are directly responsible for helping maintain food security on the island. It’s no small task feeding hundreds of thousands of people, but it can be extremely gratifying when seeing the broad smiles and hearing the exclamations of joy from our customers young and old experiencing local agriculture. So thank you all from the members of the Southern Vancouver Island Direct Farm Marketing Association for your continued support and loyal patronage.
