6881 West Saanich Rd
Phone: 385-8688 or 652-6396
www.sluggettfarms.com

Sluggett Farms produces a wide variety of quality fruit and vegetable items.  Our specialty is early maturing sweet-corn – we were the first farm (1998) on Vancouver Island to initiate the use of floating row-cover in order to accomplish this. This specialized product is a thin, breathable, silk-like material that is laid down over the corn fields immediately following the planting stage. The sheets are 820 feet long and act to create greenhouse-like conditions in the field thus producing temperatures about 10 degrees warmer than normal. They also protect the corn from insect pests and trap carbon dioxide to enhance growth. The overall effect is to enable the production of high quality sweet corn aproximately 14 to 18 days earlier than normal, open-grown varieties. In addition we grow head, romaine and leaf lettuce, beets, carrots, beans, squash, broccoli and 6 types of pumpkins.
